Electoral Commission of Uganda Seeks Shs 62 Billion for New Lubowa Headquarters
The Electoral Commission of Uganda has requested Shs 62 billion in the 2026/27 financial year budget to facilitate the construction of its new headquarters in Lubowa, Wakiso District.
According to Parliament’s Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee, the proposed project is aimed at improving the commission’s operational efficiency, strengthening institutional capacity, and providing a permanent modern working space for the electoral body.
The committee noted that the new headquarters is expected to enhance coordination and service delivery as the commission prepares for future electoral activities across the country.
The funding request comes at a time when government agencies are facing increasing pressure to improve accountability and efficiency in public service operations.
Once completed, the Lubowa facility is expected to centralize several Electoral Commission departments and reduce challenges associated with operating from scattered offices.
The proposal will now be considered as part of broader budget discussions for the 2026/27 financial year.
