Producer D’Mario Lands in Luzira Prison After Bar Incident in Makindye

Renowned Ugandan music producer D’Mario, born Kabejja Mario, is reportedly being held at Luzira Prison following an incident that allegedly started as a misunderstanding at a bar in Makindye.

According to his close friend DJ Rannkx, the producer had earlier been in studio working on music with another artist before informing him that he was heading to an Eritrean bar along Konge Road to meet friends.

Rannkx says D’Mario was later invited by fans to join them for drinks at their table. During the interaction, he reportedly stood up to greet other people when his oversized jacket accidentally knocked down a beer bottle.

People around allegedly assumed he was intoxicated and advised those with him to take him home to avoid causing disruption at the bar. However, as he was leaving the premises, he is said to have accidentally knocked over a shisha pot, which broke and escalated the situation.

“The guys immediately called 999 as he was getting out of the bar. Outside, police officers quickly arrested him together with the person he was with and threw them onto the police patrol vehicle,” DJ Rannkx revealed.

D’Mario was allegedly taken to Kabalagala Police Station before later being transferred to Luzira Prison.

Rannkx expressed shock over the producer’s continued detention, questioning why someone involved in what he described as a minor misunderstanding would end up in prison before even appearing in court.

“I didn’t understand it because this person didn’t beat anyone, didn’t murder anyone and wasn’t violent. How was he taken straight to Luzira? I visited him and he explained everything to me. He said he is expected in court on June 16,” he added.

The DJ also disclosed that he reached out to different stakeholders within the music industry seeking support, but only rappers Feffe Bussi and Dokta Brain reportedly responded by offering financial and legal assistance.

D’Mario is one of Uganda’s respected music producers and is credited for producing several popular songs including Mudra’s “Balo Balo,” Hatim & Dokey’s “Did I Die,” and Crysto Panda’s “Empele,” among others.
